Does the universe really need yet another food blog? Hmm…maybe not. But for the past year or so, many of my friends have been urging me to create a cooking blog to post recipes for the various pictures of authentic Chinese dishes I post on FB. So, it’s their fault we have another food cooking blog.

My wife is Chinese, not ABC (American born Chinese) but full-on Chinese, and all of her family are still in China. They love to cook, eat, and drink at each other’s homes and at to visit nice restaurants. She is used to amazingly good Chinese food. So, the Americanized Chinese food in the States just won’t do. Not. At. All. To help Little Miss Cuteness cope with leaving her country, hometown, and family and missing all the delicious culinary treats of her native land, I learned to cook authentic Chinese food. Most of the recipes in this blog come directly from her father and mother, and others are variations on themes they taught me.

It was a joy to learn how to cook from her parents, working nervously in their kitchen as they explained ingredients and steps in Chinese while Little Miss Cuteness translated. It is a joy to cook for her now. Of course, my cooking is no substitute for the real deal back home in China, but it’s close. Sometimes, it’s spot on. A saying common to many cultures is that a way to a person’s heart is through the stomach. I hope you enjoy these recipes, and may you find your way into that special person’s heart with some of these entries. Experiment, make mistakes, play, and make these recipes your own. Create your own culinary memories, because that is what good cooking and eating are all about anyway. And if you screw up, toss it in the trash and head out to your local Chinese restaurant for a good laugh, and then try again another time.
